A Note from Betsi
My family moved to Darien, Connecticut when I was in 8th grade. That’s when I met Chris!
We started to date spring of our senior year in high school. We went off to colleges a thousand miles apart, wrote letters every day, and could afford two phone calls a week. We got married as soon as we graduated, applied to the Peace Corps, and four months later were off to Peace Corps training in Hawaii, and then off to our assignment in the Fiji Islands. We were part of the second group of Americans to serve there.
For twenty-seven years (counting two in the Peace Corps) I taught everything from first to tenth grades – I loved it and the kids! During that time I worked on two graduate degrees at Coulumbia University, Teachers College. When daughter Jeramy went off to college, I went off to work at the Peace Corps in Washington, D.C. where I ran their global education program for U.S. kids and teachers (Coverdell World Wise Schools) and then their Center for Field Assistance and Applied Research. Then I worked at the U.S. Department of Education on a presidential inititative to increaseforeign language learning. Next, I worked in the Alexandria, Viriginia public schools’ Alliance for Learning and Leading, Now – for the first time in 21 campaigns, I have the luxury and even more fun of working on Shays for United Stated Senate campaign!
Through the years the great blessings in my life have been Chris and Jeramy and doing work I love!
